The animated short film “The Love Case of Margareta B. or It Is so Windy That Pumpkins Are Rolling across the Pumpkin Fields” by Ana Janjatović-Zorica, in collaboration with Viktor Krasnić and Multimedia Group of the Centar Elementary School in Rijeka, will be presented on 14 February 2020 at 12:30 as a part of the Valentine’s Day event at the Centar Elementary School at 5 Podhumskih Žrtava Street.
Come to the Centar Elementary School’s event on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, at which you will have an opportunity to talk to the author and members of the Multimedia Group of the Centar Elementary School and watch the animated short film “The Love Case of Margareta B. or It Is so Windy That Pumpkins Are Rolling across the Pumpkin Fields“ that talks about a unapproved, cross-border love in a time when the centre of Sušak was the dividing line between two countries.
The starting point of this small local cultural research was an interesting love case of a gentle and kind grandmother and Andrija Rački’s description of old Sušak.
The author’s grandmother, Margareta Marija Brnelić from Grobnik (born in Lopača in 1903), was a milkmaid as a young woman. Reliable sources report that Margareta used to come from Grobnik every day, carrying milk and hand-crocheted lace from thin threads – to offer them to the fine ladies of the city. We wondered if maybe, on the border of Sušak and Rijeka, she had met a full-time financial control clerk, a certain Rafail Janjatović who eventually became her husband?
Remembering her grandmother’s once unapproved, and later quite normally accepted love story, Ana Janjatović-Zorica seeks to affirm the idea of love without borders.
The following members of the Multimedia Group of the Centar Elementary School have participated in the research and making of the video: Sara Rekić, Lana Krešić, Doria Sušanj, Vivienne Shahini, Niko Scrobogna, Mauro Petrović, Valeri Drača, Sonja Scrobogna, Dino Bećar, Luka Šajnović, Hana Guska and Nikolina Šajnović, and the manager and educator Snježana Carević Tomac.
