In the fifth edition of SMOQUA, an international festival of queer and feminist culture organized by LORI in collaboration with Pariter Association and cultural organization GSG, GSG is presenting two projects by women artists who until now have not been known to the Croatian audience.
Smoqua
Smoqua is the first regional queers and feminist festival held in Rijeka. It is organized by LORI Association in collaboration with Pariter Association, the Centre for Women Studies at the Rijeka Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Rijeka’s initiative From the Citizens to Their City.

Public Health – Beyond Reach
On 15 and 16 October, come to the Palach Youth Cultural Centre (OKC Palach) in Rijeka to the fourth edition of the Smoqua International Festival of Queer and Feminist Culture. The festival is the result of joint efforts of the civil society organizations LORI and Pariter and the Centre for Women’s Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka and artistic organisation From the Citizens to their City.
Walk of Pawns by Tools for Action in collaboration with the citizens of Rijeka
On Saturday 27th June, an artistic performance called Walk of Pawns, which aimed to comment on the Walk for Life march was stopped by the police. Eight persons dressed in gigantic inflatable pawns in Walk for Life colours did not manage to join the WFL in order to rehearse their legal right to peacefully express opposing views and advocate for a free life, stand for vulnerable members of society, as well as human and women’s rights and the autonomy of the female body.
GSG in the framework of Smoqua 3 Festival
Vlasta Delimar and Boryana Rossa
As part of the 3rd international festival of queer and feminist culture Smoqua* which takes place in Rijeka, from 23 to 25 May, art organization From the Citizens to Their City presents the performances by Vlasta Delimar and Boryana Rossa, artists who examine the concepts of ‘norm’, ‘normality’, ‘normativity’ – the themes of this year’s festival.
GSG in the framework of Smoqua 2 Festival
n the scope of the second edition of queer and feminist festival Smoqua, launched by LORI Association in 2017, which this year takes place from May 17 to May 19 and deals with the topic “Pride and Prejudice”, GSG initiative is holding several events.
We are going to present the works of New York-based gender-queer artist Kris Grey and the Brazilian transdisciplinary artist Mavi Veloso, who is currently living in Holland, and learn more about their artistic-activist engagement in a talk with Zvonimir Dobrović, the director of Queer Zagreb. Our repertoire will also include the promotion of the first GSG publication that focuses on LGBTIQ and feminist issues, with textual and visual contributions of Smoqua’s collaborators. VoxFeminae.net team will presents the game “Fierce Women”, which introduces players to women who have made an outstanding contribution to society.
